FAQs
Dogs are inherently social animals, but without proper socialization, puppies and adult dogs can develop undesirable behaviors such as being skittish, nervous, or even reactive/aggressive. It's crucial to provide your dog with social interaction and structure. You have two options: socialize them in unscreened dog parks or dog-friendly areas, or bring them to doggy daycare, where we offer a structured, convenient, and safe environment for your dog to learn social skills and exercise.
Plenty of Mental Stimulation and Physical Activity: Daycare not only tires out your pup but also helps reduce unwanted behaviors like chewing on furniture, shoes, or excessive barking.
A safe outlet for highly active/energetic dogs: Your dog will engage in group play throughout the day. We do also offer quiet, down-time for dogs to rest and recoup!
Reduce Separation Anxiety: Daycare provides your pup with time away from you in a secure, safe, and fun environment, helping them get used to alone time. Our staff gives your dog the attention and care needed to make their stay as fear-free as possible.
Socialize with Similar-Sized Dogs: Dogs benefit from interacting with other dogs! Each dog is evaluated to ensure appropriate play. At Aunt Lucy's, we do everything to maintain a safe and healthy environment. Dogs are separated by size, and we do not mix large and small breeds.
When your dog is evaluated for daycare, we take extensive measures to ensure the safety of all our guests. While dogs are naturally social, some may not adjust well to larger groups. Our evaluations help our trained staff determine if your dog is suited for group play. To avoid overwhelming the new dog, we introduce them to our calmest pre-approved daycare dogs one at a time, allowing for gradual and safe acclimation. At pickup, we will discuss your dog's results! This process ensures the safety of all pets and staff. We recommend bringing your dog in right when we open on their evaluation day so they can get familiar with the facility and staff before meeting other guests.
Prior to their visit, we require that all pets have written proof from a licensed veterinarian of the following:
Bordetella (Canine Cough): Every 6 months / 1 year (depending on vet & vaccine)
*Must be administered at least 7 days prior to check in*
Distemper (DHP/DAP/DHPP): Every year (depending on vet & vaccine)
*We do not accept home vaccinations, handwritten vaccinations, sticker books, pet passports, or breeder vaccinations.
Food:
To ensure their stomachs stay content and their routines stay consistent, please bring their regular food and/or treats. Label each portion with AM, Lunch, or PM, or any other specific instructions. Please bring more food than necessary just in case!
Treats: Our guests are given small training treats throughout the day at no extra cost (unless you have specifically instructed us not to give your pet treats)! However, if your dog needs dietary supplements from home, please bag them with clear feeding instructions (e.g., "Give 1 daily before bed"). *Please do not include rawhides, bones, or any treats that might pose a risk to your pet.
Collars/leads: Please bring your pet's collar and leash at the time of drop off. We have a designated area in our office to store these items which will be returned with your pup upon pickup! Please note: for safety reasons, we do not allow pets to play with collars on!
Sleeping Items (Blankets/Beds): To ensure a clean and safe environment, we kindly request that you do not bring any bedding. Our accommodations include bedding, and soft blankets which are routinely sanitized for each guest.
Toys: For safety reasons, we kindly request that you do not bring any toys from home. We have a handful of enrichment items you can include in your booking for your pet to enjoy during their stay!
Medication: If your pet requires prescription medication, please ensure it is in the original packaging from your veterinarian with the prescribed dosage instructions. We can only administer pills and edible prescriptions. Medications can only be administered during our normal business hours. This service is provided to all guests at no extra cost!
We require a 50% down payment at the time of booking your over night stay (the remainder is due upon drop off of your pet!). We have a 3 day (72 hour) cancellation policy. If you cancel your reservation before the 3 days leading up to your stay, your deposit is refunded, less a 5% administrative fee. If you cancel inside of the 3 days leading up to your stay, your deposit will not be refunded.
Unfortunately, no. Our facility is designed specifically for dogs that are social and enjoy interacting safely with other dogs. We are not able to accommodate dogs that are anti-social, reactive, or aggressive towards other dogs.
We do accept dogs that are not spayed or neutered, but male dogs must be neutered by the age of 1 year.
